The Lions reading group in Room 6 have practiced a play in their reading lesson and did so well that Room 6 videoed them to share on our blog.

Another term gone!
Tomorrow is the last day of term 3 and we finish at 2 o'clock! How fast time has slipped away again!
I've had a blast this term with Room 6 - we've learnt how to use a Mimio board, moved our room around so we can have the projector out more often, published a lot of amazing writing, learnt how to count coins and give change using money in maths AND become even better at reading, so much that I had to move everyone around to different reading groups because you were too amazing! Phew! I hope that you have enjoyed the term as much as I have (even when I got sick!), but are looking forward to a good, safe holiday!
Spring is here so you can get out in the good weather and go to the park or walk to the pools with your family. You could check out all the posts on the blog with your families and leave some great specific comments, use the internet to access our Google Drive to do some writing or even look on Youtube for some great StoryBots videos, since you all have a great laugh watching those! You could also pop down to the library in Glen Innes and keep your reading rocket shooting up!
Whatever you decide to do during the holiday, I hope you have a good rest and come back with everything (including your uniform) ready to go for our last term together on Monday the 12th of October. I'm looking forward to hearing all about your adventures and stories!

Lovely Lions Loud Mouths!
Last week the lions reading group were practicing reading with loud clear voices and using expression in a play.
First Jazer recorded them acting out their play, but it was far too quiet and there was too much background noise from the other reading groups, so we needed to do it again when it was quieter.

Myron Simpson The Duffy Role Model
Myron Simpson is a famous cyclist and he came to talk to us about his career and reading!
He likes reading autobiographies and his favourite one was Richie McCaw's book. An autobiography is a book all about someone's personal life. Myron likes to read them because he wants to learn how to become the best athlete he can be.
Myron reads all about different countries before he visits them. He told us he had visited 25 different countries because of cycling. The only continent he hasn't visited is Antarctica. That's probably because you can't race a bike on ice! He won a silver medal in Mexico in 2007 for coming second at the Junior World Championship. He must be really good!
He showed us his equipment and his special bike - his bike had no brakes! We don't think that we'd like to ride a bike without brakes, he must be very brave! Myron rode his bike fast at 110 kilometres per hour! That's faster than you are allowed to drive on the motorway in a car!
He also showed us his special shoes. They stick onto the pedals so his feet won't slip off in his races. They were made out carbon fibre so it could be really light for his races.
He also has a special helmet to keep his head safe in case he crashes or falls off his bike. You can't see his eyes and he said it helps him get in the zone at races.
He also wears a special skin suit that is very tight but very stretchy. Malia in Room 7 got to try it on and it fit her, but it also fits Myron who is much bigger than she is! Satui in Room 4 got to try on his helmet and Krista wore his medal and sat on the bike. Katrina in Room 10 tried on his special shoes!
Everything he wears and rides is aerodynamic so he can cut through the wind faster. His bikes costs $15,000, even more than a car!
Myron is hoping to go to the Olympics next year but he won't find out until April.

Perfect Prezi!
In Room 6 we have been practicing using the laptops and tablets to use a new online site called Prezi. It allows us to create a moving presentation online to show our ideas. We have mostly been using them independently while Miss Walters is reading with our four reading groups.
Since we have been learning about instructions in our writing, we have been reading some instructions too! The Giraffes reading group read some instructions in their school journal and gave us step by step instructions in their own words and put them into a prezi!

Better Than Before!
A few weeks back the Giraffes were practicing a play from their reading group and we filmed them - they were practicing reading with awesome expression and now they've done another to compare them!

Skoolbo Stars!
Have you tried out Skoolbo?
Skoolbo is an online website and programme that helps us practice our word work and our maths! You each have a log in and a password and the computer takes you to games that you can play to practice your skills.
Make sure you check it out at www.skoolbo.co.nz and put in your user name and password! You can get better than before if you can practice your learning every day, especially in the holidays!
There might even be a Skoolbo Leaderboard for our classroom and the winner at the end of the term gets bragging rights!

Reading Rejiggle
This term our reading has really taken off - we have become more confident using reading strategies and now we can do more than just decode the words!
We can skim to find information, sound out tricky words, use excellent expression, use our prior knowledge to help us understand a text, summarise AND more! Now that we can use so many different skills, we've had a change around in our reading groups. We've kept the same names of the groups (Elephants, Leopards, Lions and Giraffes) but the some of the people and level of reading has changed!
A HUGE well done to everyone who has worked hard, read their book every night at home and practiced at school - you have all improved and become better than before!
Here's a list of the new reading groups :)
Elephants - Level 21 reading Gold - Tyra and Jazer.
Leopards - Level 22 reading Gold- Frank, Anthony, Limiteti and Alicia.
Lions - Level 23 reading Silver - Peni, Guinevere, Agueer, Nowar, Tristan and Kotipi.

Remember, Remember, Remember...!
Remember to bring your notebook and reading book bag and book back to school everyday! If you forget your notebook then it's hard to remember what you're supposed to be reading at home!
Also remember to bring your homework book to school with your homework completed every THURSDAY and put it in the box, and to take your poem folder home on a Friday after Mr Meyer gives you your poem, and bring it back on Monday!
Spelling and reading need to be done and signed off by someone at home every night so that you keep getting BETTER THAN BEFORE! We want you to be the best students you can be!
