The Mammoth Moon!

The past few weeks Room 6 has been learning about space for our inquiry topic. We have looked at the different planets in the solar system and have found out lots of new facts about each one. We've got some great pieces of writing about each planet on our inquiry wall in class - come and visit us and have a read!

Now we're looking at the moon and we've learnt about the different phases. We made some moons out of paper plates, silver paint and labelled them correctly on our wall. We learnt a heap by listening and singing along with a rap Miss Walters found on Youtube that was really catchy! Here it is in case you want to learn more like us!

Check out our awesome art work on the wall - we had fun making the moons and tried our best to make the shapes of each phase accurate!

Remember the Rugby World Cup!

Tomorrow early in the morning (in NZ time) is the opening ceremony and the first game that the All Blacks will be playing for the Rugby World Cup 2015! We have been cheering them on and singing their special song in our room and we hope they play well against Argentina! If you want to see what games are coming up, who is playing and where they are being played, then you can have a look on this website:

 http://calendar.rugbyworldcup.com/new-zealand?global=schedule&country=NZ

We will be following their progress and also looking at South Africa over the next few weeks and see if we can pick up some new language along the way! We've already created some Zentangle trophies for our art in the hopes that the All Blacks will bring the trophy home for the second time in a row.

We used our mimio to make a class brainstorm on everything we know about the Rugby World Cup this year -  check it out below!

Some South Africa Facts

We have been learning how to use google drive the last few weeks with Miss Walters in class and Mr Meyer on a Friday afternoon when we go to the computer room. We each have our own file that Miss Walters set up in our class drive.

We know that first we have to find our named folder and click on that before we go anywhere else, because then it will automatically save it into our folder! We tried using Google Docs and now we have practiced using Google Slides to make a class presentation with all of our facts on it!

Have a flick through our slides to see if there are any facts we can teach you about South Africa! We have done lots of research using the internet and now we have created a slide show to share our knowledge!

We hope you enjoy it!

Factfile Friends

Last week on Friday Room 6 went to the computer lab and went on google drive.

They went onto their folders and did a google slide about South African facts. Room 6 wrote one fact each and had to write by their name. Some people had pictures and others didn't.

This week on Friday they are going to share their facts with the syndicate. Then four people are going to share one fact each about South African foods. Room 6 is also going to teach the syndicate how to say the vowels in Afrikaans.

Room 6, good luck!

We Started With South Africa...

Our Inquiry topic for the next few weeks is all about a country... We are learning about South Africa!

We started off listing all the things we already knew about South Africa.... We used our prior knowledge to list everything we thought could be correct about the country and people in South Africa.

Then we made a big list of questions for things that we wanted to find out - is one of your questions on our list?

Next we're going to research and find out the answers to some of these questions as a class and record our learning in our Inquiry modelling book, then we can share our knowledge with our Junior syndicate on Thursday!

Keep your eyes peeled for new facts about South Africa! Perhaps you could tell us some things you know about South Africa?
