Skoolbo Surprise

In assembly today Mrs Vickers had a special surprise! She had been sent a giant blow up trophy to celebrate some people at our school answering over 10,000 questions on Skoolbo!

Jazer was the only junior student - all the others came from Room 11, but we got to keep the trophy for this week!

Well done, Jazer!

Remarkable Recital

On Monday, Room 6 had their mini poem competition in class. We decided our finalists were Jessica, Peni and Leanah, on Friday. They will be competing in the Poem Recital on Friday 6th November at 1pm.

Then we had a mini competition in our class today and Tristan, Taniela, Riiana and Alicia were our favourites! They spoke clearly, loudly, looked at their audience, spoke slowly and stood still - They followed CLASS. We even had a little giggle at some of the content of the poems and how they were recited.

Final Snag Golf!

Today we had our final Snag Golf lesson with Shannon and this time we got to use those letters we had to remember from last week to hit really big shots. We had to remember Y for the shape our arms and club made when we were pointing it at the ball and then the letter L for the shape our arms and club made when we were swinging the club through to hit the ball harder.

We had so much fun and we practiced hitting shots to the sticky target that our partner was holding first. We got to shout SNAG if we got it stuck to the yellow or red parts of the target. Look at Limiteti catching the ball in this photo Miss Walters took below!

Then we dressed Jazer up in the sticky suit! We called him Snag Man! We all got to have a turn at aiming our ball to hit Jazer's velcro suit and try and hit the target. Don't worry, though - it was padded so he didn't get hurt! He had a big smile and thought it was great!

Then the best bit happened at the end of our lesson. We got to hit some really far shots! We had to hit the ball halfway across the field to the flag target where our partner was stood. It was really hard. Even Miss Walters wasn't very good at it! Tyra tried her best and you can see her attempts in the video below.

At the end we helped Shannon tidy up the equipment and said a big thank you to her. We made and signed a big golf ball card and told her that she took the gold medal for being the best golf coach ever!

Special Syndicate Assembly

Yesterday Room 6 led the junior syndicate assembly. We were a success! A few people were away so we had to quickly have new people to take their place, and everyone did really well.

Here we are sitting waiting to start with all of our work to share.

We showed everyone our singing and rapping of the song Team Ball Player Thing and our Zentangle art in the shape of the rugby world cup trophy. We reminded everyone to bring their books back to school from when they had been taken home and to make sure their rubbish was in the bin.

Miss Walters was especially proud of us for rapping the part in Team Ball Player Thing as we had practiced it at school and then kept practicing at home so we were heaps better and ready for assembly! Everyone in the syndicate sung along with us on the chorus and looked like they were enjoying themselves.

Obstacle Golf

Today we had Snag Golf again and this time we got to go outside to hit some bigger shots! We practiced getting it over the sticky target which we pretended was a river, and some blue mountains which were cones!

Then when we were good at doing that, we had to hit the ball into some ice cream cones that our partner was holding.

We learnt two new steps today - one of them was that we had to touch our club to the yellow arrow on the floor, and the other was having the lines on the club pointing straight at our feet.

Miss Walters (who said she was really bad at golf!) even managed to get 3 snags! She listened hard and she learnt too! 

Dora even managed to hit her ball into the ice cream cone when Peni was really far away! Jessica said she managed to hit the ball low and Frank STILL caught it!

SNAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAG!

Hands together, feet together, toes pointing at the ball, arms straight and TICK TOCK LIKE A CLOCK!

Jessica is showing us the 5 things you need to remember to play golf successfully!

Today we had Snag Golf again and we used a tunnel and cones to practice our aiming skills. We had to set up our mini golf course with the flag post, hoops and the sticky targets as our tunnel. We practiced shooting and aiming the ball at the flag post through the tunnel and into cones. When we got it to land in the hoop we shouted SNAG! 

Jazer and Peni are hitting the tennis balls into the cones to practice their aiming skills!

While doing this we also had to remember everything from last week about having our hands together, feet together, toes pointing at the ball, arms straight and our new skill TICK TOCK LIKE A CLOCK!

We also had to make sure that we weren't too close to the ball or else it would be cheating and it would unfair to the other groups we were competing against.

Nowar is practicing his aim and the ball is about to hit the yellow target so he has to shout SNAG! What should he do with his feet?

Great Golfers!

Every Thursday morning for the rest of this term, Room 6 is having special PE lessons with Shannon to teach us how to play golf!

We are very lucky to have these lovely lessons and Miss Walters is going to take some photos and videos each week while we have our special lessons - perhaps we might find New Zealand's next golfing superstar in our class?

See if you can spot the important things to remember when you're learning to play golf from some of our photos!

Some of our favourite things were hitting the tennis ball with a golf club so they stuck to the sticky target. We got to shout 'SNAG' when the ball hit the yellow target that looked like a bullseye. We also rolled the ball into a yellow hoop! Then we use a sticky flag target and we had to try and roll the ball onto the sticky flag target and get 2 points!

Jazer's favourite part was the challenge where we had to get seven 'SNAG's and then do our best dance moves, push ups or star jumps. Peni even challenged Shannon to do five push ups and everyone laughed together!

Magnificent Music

Yesterday afternoon we went to the music room and practiced playing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star! 

First we sang along in words while Miss Walters played it on the marimba and then we did it again singing the notes we would play on our xylophones.

We practiced a few times and then Miss Walters filmed us using the tablet and sang the letters along to help us. We did really well for a first try and Miss Walters was very proud and impressed with us!

Skoolbo Stars!

Have you tried out Skoolbo?

Skoolbo is an online website and programme that helps us practice our word work and our maths! You each have a log in and a password and the computer takes you to games that you can play to practice your skills.

Make sure you check it out at www.skoolbo.co.nz and put in your user name and password! You can get better than before if you can practice your learning every day, especially in the holidays!

There might even be a Skoolbo Leaderboard for our classroom and the winner at the end of the term gets bragging rights!

Reading Rejiggle

This term our reading has really taken off - we have become more confident using reading strategies and now we can do more than just decode the words!

We can skim to find information, sound out tricky words, use excellent expression, use our prior knowledge to help us understand a text, summarise AND more! Now that we can use so many different skills, we've had a change around in our reading groups. We've kept the same names of the groups (Elephants, Leopards, Lions and Giraffes) but the some of the people and level of reading has changed!

A HUGE well done to everyone who has worked hard, read their book every night at home and practiced at school - you have all improved and become better than before!
